NEW HEALTH AND WELFARE BUILDING IN SPLIT Following the public tender which was announced by SEM 1986 d.d. and the Society of Architects Split (DAS), the first award for the conceptual design of the 'Lokve' Senior Citizens Home and Polyclinic in Split went to the architectural team of Eugen Širola and Lovre Petrović.
Following the obtainment of the location permit, the design of the main project is now in process, in addition to the preparation of the land. The beginning of the preparation of the site for the construction of the future building is planned for January 2010. The site is located almost in the centre of the city, at the intersection of the streets of Matica Hrvatske and Kranjčevićeva. The street of Matica Hrvatske, which is wide and not congested with traffic and which stretches from the east towards the west and an underground parking lot all ensure easy access for users, as well as residents and visitors to the Home, in addition to patients and medical workers.
The intended purpose of the building is both social and medical. Vertically it is arranged into a luxury apartment-hotel for the accommodation of senior citizens, while the medical centre is located in the horizontal part of the building. The combination of these activities form the "Split House of Health", with the aim of achieving synergy between both elements and offering optimal care to patients and guests of the hotel.
The process of obtaining the necessary documents for the establishment of a medical institution has begun simultaneously to obtaining the necessary building permits. Future partners and doctors from various areas of medicine are also being contacted.
